Helping Kids Feel Comfortable at the Dentist
Children often feel nervous before and during a dentist appointment, so we’ve designed an office that we know they’ll enjoy visiting. Our kid-friendly atmosphere can put even the most nervous patients at ease, and once they are in the dental chair, we offer safe and comfortable sedation options to extra nervous kids to help them feel relaxed throughout the appointment.
Comfortable and Safe Sedation Options
Every child is unique, which is why we offer several safe sedation choices tailored to different needs. Before beginning treatment, we review your child’s health history and explain each option clearly, so parents can feel confident in selecting the approach that keeps their child comfortable and relaxed throughout the visit.
Nitrous Oxide (“Laughing Gas”)
This sweet-smelling gas is inhaled through a comfortable mask placed over the nose. It allows the patient to feel relaxed and at ease while we work. Once we’re done, your child will feel normal after just a few breaths of regular air. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recognizes its usage as a safe, effective technique for treating children’s needs.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation is recommended for very anxious patients to minimize physical discomfort and pain, or in cases of young children needing extensive dental treatment. The sedative will be administered in the office based on the patient’s weight. Vital signs will be monitored throughout the entire treatment. Your child will keep all their natural reflexes, may become drowsy, but will not be unconscious.
General Anesthesia
If your child requires general anesthesia for a procedure, we will complete their dental work at the hospital, so your child will be monitored the entire time by a pediatric anesthesiologist.
IV Sedation
For some more invasive procedures, we may recommend IV sedation. If we do, a certified anesthesiologist will come to the office to administer and monitor the sedation carefully throughout the procedure.
